Introduction

The customer is India's leading cryptocurrency exchange. It has built the world's first auto-order matching fiat P2P exchange, with millions of transactions done in P2P exchange alone. Their ORM team was aware of our capabilities, as they had availed of our services in the previous organization, and hence reached out to us. We successfully deleted 95% of fake brand digital assets; a total of 4674 fake websites, customer care numbers, social media accounts, and groups were brought down over the 6-month period.

About "The Crypto Exchange"

It is one of the fastest-growing cryptocurrency exchanges in India, with more than 60 lakh registered users and a trading volume of $5.4 billion per month.

The Challenge

The customer is India's most trusted bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchange, where you can buy, sell, and trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and more cryptocurrencies in India. There were thousands of websites, fake customer care numbers, social media accounts impersonating customer support numbers, and profiles impersonating founders, co-founders, and key stakeholders. The brand's credibility was at its lowest. Identifying the legit official channels from those of the fraudsters was near impossible. Thousands of gullible customers were defrauded. Any online search of the brand name invariably yielded fake customer care links, websites, and social media accounts. Defrauding genuine customers was a common occurrence. Rumours were being spread about crypto fraud, Ponzi scams, bans, etc., there was fear-mongering, malicious hashtag trends, and social media campaigns were conducted to defame the brand.

How Aiplex Went About It?

First things first, we at AiPlex embarked on an aggressive brand enforcement campaign. This customer operates in a highly volatile and high-stakes business where brand credibility is critical. Once we got the whitelist of their digital assets; their trademark and wordmark certificates, our net vigilance team collated and shared cybersquatting, typosquatting, fake customer service numbers, fake social media accounts, brand hijacking instances, etc. with the brand team. Once the brand team approved it for removal, our legal and enforcement teams ensured that it was removed ASAP. The removal compliance was tracked and monitored daily in a coordination sheet common between teams. This was a very effective communication channel between AiPlex and the brand. We also prioritized social listening, were the true "listening post of the brand," and mitigated many "reputation crisis" situations. There were many fake APKs misleading and defrauding customers, and our legal and enforcement teams deployed everything in the book and were successful in bringing them down.


The Outcome

We have deleted a total of 4,674 fake accounts, APKs, and websites that had more than 1,51, 000 cumulative followers, 38,000 posts, and thousands of downloads and fraudulent interactions. By deleting fake handles with followers ranging from single digits to millions, we have paved the way for seamless customer interaction with legitimate brand channels. Customers are now directed to official channels to open accounts, raise tickets, connect with stakeholders, etc. We have disenfranchised fraudsters and impostors. A total of 1974 APKs with an overall monthly visit of 359,742,000 were deleted, which translated to an extrapolated saving of $1.18 million per day (based on the brand’s per-day trading volume of daily trading volume between $114 million to $392 million).
