A Case Study
The Challenge
Our customer was faced with an orchestrated attempt to malign their brand. Thousands of videos, posts, and links to sexual and abusive content were shared widely. These videos and posts used unauthorized images (wordmarks and trademarks) of the brand. Videos of alleged adulterous events, police raids, etc., were similarly shared. The perception was that our customer’s brand was a haven for illegal activities. While our customer complied with the "Law of the Land and policies pertaining to "unmarried couples," the videos, posts, and media coverage seemed to suggest otherwise. These tarnished the image of our customers. Additionally, there were thousands of social media accounts, fake websites, and customer care numbers misleading customers and sharing adult content. Any brand keyword search across social media and YouTube only yielded defamatory content.
Why They Choose Us?
They had tried various agencies to address this. Their legal team tried enforcing brand rights and removing defamatory content with very little success. Industry veterans from the M&E industry had told them to consult us. After numerous rounds of calls, scrutiny, and clarifications from their legal and marketing teams, they onboarded us for this activity. We successfully deleted a total of 3370 fake websites, defamatory content, social media accounts, and groups, with a compliance rate of 98% over a 6-month period. How Aiplex Went About It?
We hit the ground running and sought out the digital whitelist of the brand. The request from this client was "way different" from most clients we serviced. They wanted our social listening specialists to not only extract these defamatory videos but also watch them in their entirety, categorize them based on the content, and give an advisory. They also wanted data on the subscribers, views, likes, comments, etc., and contact information to send legal notices, etc. An exhaustive dashboard was designed, and a real-time messaging mechanism for coordination between teams was set up. The focus of this project was the removal of defamatory content, which was tracked and monitored meticulously. The enforcement and legal teams put their collective experience and entire might to work to ensure success in this project and were able to achieve removal compliance of 98%.
The Outcome
A total of 115 YouTube videos and 32 channels were brought down. 401 Facebook accounts were deleted, these fake accounts sharing defamatory content had 77,056 followers, 37,119 likes, and 1,12,728 members. 439 fake Instagram accounts with more than 1,15,449 followers were deleted. 2306 fake APKs were deleted. 185 Telegram accounts with 12,712 members were deleted. Essentially, negative, slanderous, malicious, profane, and abusive content defaming the brand was brought down; these videos had a cumulative viewership of 266,507,051. Substantial defamatory content about the brand was deleted, and this dramatically improved the brand's perception in search results.
